Individual District Contest here at Prairie High School was just a stunning day. Our directors are extremely thankful for everyone who volunteered their time to help, including Speech Team members, parents, other students, and friends. THANK YOU! Without your support Saturday would not have run as smoothly as it did.
Our Speech Team entered a total of 50 events on Saturday, and we are very pleased to share that 32 students earned a Division I rating and 18 students earned a Division II. The students who earned a Division I rating will be moving onto STATE contest at Vinton-Shellsburg High School on Saturday, March 11th. Hello Speechies! As I hope many of you are aware, we are HOSTING Individual District Contest next Saturday (the 25th). ALL SPEECH TEAM MEMBERS ARE REQUIRED TO VOLUNTEER TO SET-UP ON FRIDAY THE 24TH (We have no school that day and will begin set-up at 1:00 p.m.) AND AT LEAST ONE SHIFT FOR CONTEST (the 25th). Do not worry about your individual event and volunteering shift overlapping- Kami and Mrs. Swartzendruber are in charge of scheduling and will make sure no one overlaps. Once again, speech team members are required to volunteer on Friday and Saturday. Please encourage your friends and family to help us out! This is how our Speech Team makes money and will continue to pay for our many needs in the future! Here is the link: signup.com/client/invitation/6775657374/1746495/false#!1746495/false/false.
Large Group All-State Festival is this Saturday, February 18th, at Iowa State University. For those Speechies (and their families!) who are interested in attending, information packets are available to pick up in the PHS library. All attendees who are NOT performing at All-State must also purchase a red wristband, which are $8.00. Wristbands can be purchased from Coach Swartzendruber or Coach Hill before Saturday (this course of action is highly recommended) OR at Iowa State on Saturday. Performers will be given a blue wristband, free of charge. Without a wristband all attendees will be denied access to the performances on Saturday, so make sure you purchase yours ASAP!
Coach Swartzendruber and Coach Hill are also preparing a bus to take to Ames on Saturday morning. We want this bus as full as possible in celebration of our phenomenal Large Group season and to support our three performing events: 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Musical Theatre); Everything But The Kitchen Sink (Short Film); and The Evolution of Man (Solo Mime). If you are making other travel arrangements and plan to meet up with our Speech Team at Iowa State, please let Coach Swartzendruber or Coach Hill know immediately. Finally, you can find the All-State schedule here: http://www.ihssa.org/allstateprogram217.html. Here is a summarized schedule of when and where our three groups are performing at All-State: 1. Solo Mime: The Evolution of Man - Lindsey Grady - Center V - 10:46 a.m 2. Short Film: Everything But The Kitchen Sink - Caroline Sherman, Tori Enyart, Nicole Adams, Wyatt Heisterkamp, & Jacob Wenger - Center IX - 1:25 p.m. 3.
